England Coast Path

The England Coast Path is a proposed long-distance National Trail which will follow the coastline of England. When complete, it will be 2,795 miles (4,500 kilometres) in length

The trail is being implemented by Natural England, a non-departmental public body of the UK government responsible for ensuring that England's natural environment is protected and improved. It also has a responsibility to help people enjoy, understand and access the natural environment.

On 3rd October 2019 Natural England submitted its compendium of reports to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs setting out proposals for the section from South Hayling to East Head. Public comments had to be submitted by the end of November 2019.

In Emsworth, the proposed route follows the Solent Way through Nore Barn Woods to Warblington. To improve access it is proposed to extend the raised walkway westward from Warblington Road and to replace the bridge with an extended, slimmer, higher bridge. This will improve public safety and bring environmental benefits.

The Planning Inspectorate will consider any objections and any related representations before passing recommendations to the Secretary of State, who in turn will consider both representations and objections and then make a decision as to whether to approve the proposals.
